HOW WE USED TO DO IT

Description

The shared Graphtec FC8600 Cutting Plotter is set up as a shared device from Jeff Sellers’s computer. He is plugged into the device via USB cord.

Background

The device is used exclusively by the Sign Shop personnel and only works with the accompanying software. Jeff was plugging into the device via USB cord and Bud Clark was plugging in using a Serial port. Networking the plotter was considered, but it was determined that a share would be a simpler solution since it’s only used by two employees.

Deployment

  • Set it as a shared device through Jeff Sellers’s Printer Properties settings.

  • Eric Krause in MIS had to add Jeff’s device to the “Disable Invalid Print Servers” GPO that limits printing to the two print servers (Colpotter & Henry).
Important: This will have to be updated if/when Jeff’s computer is changed.

  • Manually set up the shared printer in Bud’s associated software.
