New Computer Email Notification and Instructions

Once a new computer has been configured for the user, send the following email to arrange the best time to swap out the old one and to give them some time to do the following in preparation of the change:

--------------------------------------------

Subject: You're getting a new computer

Body of Message:

Isn't that great?! So let me know when would be a good time for you to make the switch. You'll want to do a few things in advance. For instance:

Desktop Shortcuts:

Look over your desktop short cuts. You'll need to set them up again. An easy way is to copy your Desktop folder onto your H: drive so you can then more easily restore it when you get the new computer. You can find that folder here:

C:\Users\[username]\Desktop.

Since you're going from Windows 7 to Windows 10, not everything will work the same way, so it's good to have a screen shot of your desktop just in case.

You also want to backup your Internet Explorer Favorites as well as your Chrome Bookmarks. Here's how:

Internet Explorer Favorites:

This is similar to your Desktop Shortcuts. Copy your favorites folder to your H: drive. You can find it here:

C:\Users\[username]\Favorites

Export bookmarks from Chrome

Open Chrome.

In the top right, click the Menu

.

Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.

In the manager, click the "Organize" menu.

Select Export bookmarks.

Chrome will export your bookmarks as an HTML file, which you can then import  back into your new computer.

Also, take a look at Word and Excel. Some people customize their settings quite a bit and you'll need to reset all of that as well.

We typically hold on to your old computer for a couple weeks before we wipe the hard drive, so you'll have a chance if you missed anything to refer back to your old machine. But time is limited. This offer won't last forever. Act now, while supplies last!

Thanks.
